Presented by: Dr. Alena Strauss
Synopsis: Any member of a minority group is familiar with “everyday prejudice”. These are the common everyday comments and behaviours that signal to minority group individuals that they are different and not fully part of the larger society. This talk presents an overview of a doctoral research project exploring the experience of everyday prejudice and how some individuals manage this experience. A conceptual model of an encounter with everyday prejudice will be presented along with its implications for therapeutic intervention and education.
